LAUP Seeks Teachers to Play a Role in Improving the Health and Well-Being of Preschoolers

If you are an LAUP preschool teacher, do you want to have an impact on a child's life-long healthy habits? Are you self-motivated to take a leadership role in your community and implement policies and procedures that offer healthy choices for preschoolers in your care?

As a preschool teacher, you have the power to positively affect a child's life-long healthy habits. Below, you will find information regarding a new and exciting project called RENEW Los Angeles County (Renew Environments for Nutrition, Exercise and Wellness). Your participation will help make a positive impact not only on the children in your care, but on the entire LAUP provider network as well.

It takes interest, dedication and leadership to significantly make a difference in a preschooler's life. By taking on this role, you can greatly increase a child's ability to learn and help them become successful in kindergarten and beyond.

What is RENEW Los Angeles County?

RENEW Los Angeles County is made possible by funding from the Department of Health and Human Services through the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. There are multiple RENEW projects across the county focusing on making healthy lifestyle options accessible for our communities. The LAUP Project RENEW is focused on working with preschool providers to promote healthy choices for four-year old children.

What Should I Expect?

Partnering sites will work with the LAUP RENEW Project Team to review their site's policies and nutrition and physical activity practices. Participating sites will receive specialized training and coaching aimed at improving the quality of program delivery in nutrition and physical activity throughout nine months (July 2011 through March 2012).

  • Site-tested, ready-to-use resources adaptable to indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Strategies to help keep you and your staff motivated.
