LAUP staff and preschool providers recently held a successful collaborative community event — Winterfest — which was designed to highlight the importance of preschool and increase student enrollment in Lynwood.
Community agencies such as the Center for Community and Family Services and Lynwood Community Adult School, as well as LAUP providers participated by having booths advertising their services and affordable quality preschool programs. The event was held at Domino's Early Learning Academy.
"The providers took the lead to make this event come to fruition," said Alex Himmel, Starting Points Supervisor. "Winterfest helped our preschool providers both build their enrollment and promote community outreach and education. This is a tremendous example of what can be accomplished when our providers work together."
The following preschool providers participated in Winterfest:
Gisele Ochoa, a Preschool Specialist at Lynwood Unified School District, said Winterfest served an important purpose, as it informed many Lynwood families about the availability of affordable LAUP preschool services in their community."
"It was a successful event," she said. "The families who attended enjoyed the activity. They got a lot of information, and we are able to follow up to tell them about our program to see if they're interested in the future to enroll their children."
