LAUP Parent Orientation Event Sheds Light on Important Topics
Comprehensive Child Development LAUP Hub recently provided a group of parents valuable information about how to maximize their children's preschool experience, and how to best prepare them for success in kindergarten and throughout elementary school.
This informational gathering of 60 parents took place at the Palms Park Community Center in Lakewood, where the LAUP parents also heard about the importance of a high-quality preschool education.
"Parents were given information about how the LAUP program is preparing their children to be successful in kindergarten and beyond," said Alicia Davis, Family Child Care Coach, Comprehensive Child Development LAUP Hub. "They also heard ideas about how to help their children succeed in preschool and elementary school, and they learned about ways to become more involved and advocate for their kids."
Davis added LAUP reminded the parents that they are their children's first and most important teachers, and that everything they do leaves an impression on their children, even when they think the children aren't watching or listening.
Parents also listened to five speakers talk about how to get the most benefit from their children's preschool experience. A question and answer period followed, with parents receiving information about what their children should be learning in preschool, and how to know if they are ready for kindergarten?
"This parent orientation event was by far the best attended one we've had," Davis noted. "We think that several factors contributed to that. First, the providers were solidly on board and stressed the importance of parents attending this meeting. Second, we surveyed the families to learn what day and time would work out best for them, and how many families would need child care in order to attend. The providers also took responsibility for organizing and providing refreshments and child care, so the work was shared as was the ownership of the meeting." Previous
