UPDATE: Federal Stimulus Bill Includes Funding for Early Childhood Education
Stimulus Plan Addendum: This is an update to the article distributed this morning. Significant funding changes have already been made to the Senate bill and we wanted to make sure our audience had the most current news.
On Jan. 28, the House of Representatives passed economic recovery legislation (HR 1) with significant new funding for Head Start, Early Head Start and the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). Originally, the Senate considered a version of the economic recovery plan (S 336), which included even greater federal investments in early childhood education. However, negotiations over the size and scope of the bill have resulted in reductions to the proposed early childhood education spending increases.
