Assemblyman Portantino Tours LAUP Classroom, Impressed by Quality Education Program

At LAUP, one of our most important objectives is to strengthen support for early childhood education among our stakeholders, including legislators. LAUP has always welcomed the opportunity to have lawmakers tour LAUP classrooms and witness first-hand the quality education children are provided by dedicated teachers at LAUP preschools.

Assemblyman Anthony J. Portantino, D-La Canada-Flintridge, recently did just that, when he visited Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center in Pasadena, and toured an LAUP classroom and was impressed with what he saw.

“I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the children at Mothers’ Club Learning Center and getting to know more about the valuable services that this organization provides to our neediest families,” he said.

The tour was organized by Preschool California to gain the Assemblyman’s support for legislation to expand affordable, high-quality preschool in California. Mothers’ Club, which is an LAUP-funded preschool, was handpicked as an example of a high-quality preschool program.

Sharyn Muhammad, LAUP’s Quality Support Coach Supervisor, who joined Portantino during his classroom tour, said the event was a resounding success.

“The assemblyman was amazed at the quality of learning and how the children were engaged in the LAUP classroom,” she said. “He was impressed with the high level of quality teaching that took place in the classroom.”
