IBM Donates Computer Play Stations Valued at $100,000 to LAUP for the Benefit of Preschoolers
IBM has awarded 50 children’s educational computer play stations to LAUP that will advance the preschool experience for hundreds of students at LAUP sites throughout Los Angeles County.
The “Young Explorer” units, with a value of $100,000, are part of IBM’s KidSmart Early Learning Program, which integrates interactive teaching and learning activities in English and Spanish, using the latest technology into the pre-kindergarten curriculum. LAUP and the Los Angeles Unified School District were the only two organizations in Los Angeles County to receive these computer learning centers.
“LAUP appreciates IBM’s decision to grant us these computers that will have a very positive impact on our students’ early learning experience,” said Dr. Gary Mangiofico, CEO of LAUP. “We strongly believe that computers can provide great opportunities for children to think and learn new things. Using a computer gives children an opportunity to solve problems, make decisions, practice learned skills and help each other to learn new things.”
The “Young Explorer” computer play stations will be installed at LAUP preschools throughout Los Angeles County, and will be great additions to classrooms.
"The IBM KidSmart program has proven to be effective in teaching young children concepts in math, science and language as well as the skills needed to be successful in the classroom,” said Todd Flora, IBM's Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs Manager in Los Angeles.
IBM’s KidSmart Early Learning Program has benefited students in 60 countries worldwide, serving more than 10 million children and 100,000 teachers.
