ECE Resources

There are many, many excellent organizations in Los Angeles, in California, and across the country that provide important information and resources to ECE teachers and staff interested in workforce and professional development. The following list isn't exhaustive, but hopefully includes many of the key websites and relevant organizations.

Action Alliance for Children
Works to educate and connect those working in the early care and education field.  Provides information on current issues, trends, and public policies through its newsmagazine, Children's Advocate.

California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC)
The primary professional ECE organization in California through which members work to promote excellence in early childhood education from birth through 8 years.

California Child Development Administrators Association
Provides and develops leadership that supports publicly-funded early care and education programs for children from birth to 13 and their families.

California Childcare Health Program
Supports providers in achieving healthy and safe practices in child care settings by providing health consultations through its toll-free Child Care Health line. Also, provides downloadable fact sheets on a variety of health topics for distribution in English and Spanish.

California Community Colleges Early Childhood Educators
Provides a forum for California community colleges faculty and staff to advocate for high quality child development instruction and early care and education programs. Supports the Curriculum Alignment Project (CAP).

California Department of Social Services
The California Department of Social Services' Children and Family Services Division is responsible for designing and overseeing an array of programs and services for California's at-risk families and children.

California Early Childhood Mentor Program
The largest mentoring program for child care professionals in the US, this program provides advanced training and stipends for experienced child care workers who wish to become mentors to new practitioners.

California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN) 
CPIN is a program of the Child Development Division of the CDE whose purpose is to provide professional development and technical assistance to preschool teachers and administrators to ensure preschool children are ready for school.

CARES (Comprehensive Approaches to Raising Educational Standards)
CARES is an early care and education workforce development program located in 44 counties in California and funded by First 5 California. CARES rewards early learning teachers and family child care providers for educational attainment and professional development. Services are also offered to CARES administrators/ partners to improve the quality of their programs through the CARES Training & Technical Assistance Project.

Center for the Child Care Workforce
CCW provides information on current activities of the non-profit agency that began the movement for better compensation for child care workers. Look for information about the Worthy Wage Campaign, National Mentoring Alliance, and research results.

Child Development Division - California Dept of Education 
The Division funds a variety of child care programs under Title 5, including the General Child Development Program, State Preschool, the Alternative Payment Program, and serves as the lead agency for federal child development funds. In addition, the CDD is developing and publishing the California Preschool Learning Foundations.

Children Now
A national organization which through a combination of research and advocacy seeks to ensure that children are the top public policy priority.

Childcare Alliance of Los Angeles
A partnership of 13 community-based organizations working together to ensure the delivery of seamless, consistent, quality child care throughout Los Angeles County. The member agencies provide child care Alternative Payment (AP) and/or Resource & Referral (R&R) services.

Clearinghouse for Multiple Documents 
Developed by the California Department of Education (CDE), the Clearinghouse for Multilingual Documents (CMD) helps schools to meet state and federal requirements for document translation and parental notification. The CMD makes available templates of parental notification documents used in state-funded programs in many non-English languages to educational agencies.

Community Licensing Care
A division of the California Department of Social Services, the Community Care Licensing Program licenses and monitors Family Child Care Homes and Child Care Centers in an effort to ensure that they provide a safe and healthy environment for children who are in day care.

Curriculum Alignment Project
A collaborative project working to the develop a statewide lower division, entry-level Teacher Training "Program of Study" in a standardized 24 unit core. The collaboration included the early care and education faculty professional association, California Community College Early Childhood Educators (CCCECE) and numerous interested individuals and groups.

Desired Results for Children and Families Training and Technical Assistance Project
Funded through the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, the Desired Results for Children and Families Training and Technical Assistance Project provides assistance to programs using the Desired Results tool through their website and trainings.

Early Head Start National Resource Center (EHS NRC)
The EHS NRC is a storehouse of early childhood expertise that promotes the building of new knowledge and the sharing of information. It also provides professional development opportunities for the Early Head Start and Head Start community.

First 5 California
Created by California voters to invest tobacco tax revenues towards improving the lives of California's young children and their families through a comprehensive system of education, health services, childcare, and other crucial programs. First 5 California distributes funds to local communities through the state's 58 individual counties, all of which have created their own local First 5 County Commissions.

First 5 LA
The local commission that receives monies from First 5 California towards improving the lives of children in Los Angeles County, from prenatal through age 5. First 5 LA aims to increase the number of children from the prenatal stage through age 5 who are physically and emotionally healthy, safe, and ready to learn by funding partnerships, programs and initiatives in the Los Angeles County area.

Head Start's Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center
Website serves as a resource for Head Start and other preschool teachers with a focus on Child Development and Health, Professional Development, Dual Language Learners, Family and Community Partnerships, and Program Design and Management.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
NAEYC is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8. NAEYC is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children with nearly 100,000 members, a national network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates, and a growing global alliance of like-minded organizations.

National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER)
The National Institute for Early Education Research supports early childhood education initiatives by providing objective, nonpartisan information based on research. Their goal is to ensure that every American child can receive a good education at ages three and four.

National Child Care Information Center
A national clearinghouse and technical assistance (TA) center that provides comprehensive child care information resources and TA services to Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Administrators and other key stakeholders.

Plan 4 Preschool 
The Plan4Preschool Web Portal is a search engine and digital library for preschool planning in California. This website offers tools and resources to support both local county planning and providers looking to enhance the quality of their programs.

Preschool California
Preschool California is an advocacy organization that works to increase access to high-quality preschool for all of California's children.

Zero to Three
Informs, educates and supports adults who influence the lives of infants and toddlers. Their hallmark publications include the Zero to Three Journal and Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood (DC:03) in 1994 (revised 2005).
