Preschool Supporters
LAUP is partnering with elected officials throughout Los Angeles County to promote the importance of preschool, raise awareness and support opportunities to increase access to high quality preschool in the municipalities they represent. By supporting preschool, elected officials are taking action to ensure their youngest constituents are prepared for school and life. As preschool supporters, they recognize that children who participate in high-quality preschool are better prepared for school, more likely to graduate from high school, less likely to get involved in crime, and more likely to contribute to the economy. For these reasons, high-quality preschool is a wise public investment that yields social benefits and cost savings to the cities they serve.
If you are a city elected official and would like to join LAUP's list of preschool supporters please download and complete the Preschool Pledge Form here and send it via fax or email to Silvestre Quiroz (213) 416-1299 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Preschool Supporter of the Month
A Conversation with Councilmember Robert Garcia
The Honorable Robert Garcia was elected to the Long Beach City Council in April 2009, and re-elected to a full four-year term in April 2010 to serve the citizens of the First Council District. He is the youngest elected and first Latino City Councilmember in Long Beach history. Councilmember Garcia is also co-founder, co-owner of the Long Beach Post, a media website and newspaper. LAUP is proud to feature Councilmember Garcia as a preschool supporter. We recently spoke to Councilmember Garcia at Un Mundo de Amigos Preschool, an LAUP preschool in his district.
